Where the CM8000 fits

  • Sites that need console access to the firewall and a few switches, and nothing more.
  • Racks where a separate management switch already exists.

Need a built-in out-of-band switch? The OM1300 adds one. More than 8 console ports? The CM8100 starts at 16. Opengear CM8000 datasheet.

Which model for a FortiGate branch site?

Usually the OM1304-4E-C. Its four console ports reach the FortiGate and up to three switches, its four switched gigabit ports put the FortiGate MGMT port and the switches’ management ports on the out-of-band network, and its 5G modem keeps that path off the site’s internet circuit. If console access is all the site needs, the CM8004-C costs less. For five to eight console connections, use the OM1308-8E-C. For more than eight, see the model chooser. We confirm the model when we scope the site.

What the drawing shows

  • Serial 1, 2 and 3 go to the console ports of the FortiGate and both switches.
  • There is no built-in switch: management Ethernet needs a switch you already have, shown faded and optional.
  • The 5G modem gives the unit its own path, separate from the site’s internet circuit.
  • Serial console cable
  • Out-of-band management Ethernet
  • Cellular or second circuit
  • Encrypted tunnel
  • Production network

CM8000 questions

How much does the Opengear CM8000 cost?

List prices run from $1,249 to $2,299 for the hardware, per Opengear’s price list effective October 26, 2026. One year of Opengear Foundation support (OG-FNTS-CM8000-1YR) is $259 list price. Cellular models also need a data plan. We confirm the exact price when we quote.

Which CM8000 model do we need?

Count the console ports you need to reach, decide whether the site needs its own cellular link, and check the uplink. We do that with you when we scope the site and put the exact part number on the quote.

Can you install and manage the CM8000?

Yes. We stage the configuration, ship the unit to your site and connect it during the install; installation is quoted after scoping. See out-of-band management for how it fits a managed FortiGate site.
