IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection are measured with logging enabled; NGFW with firewall, IPS and application control on; threat protection adds malware protection. IPsec uses AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection uses an average of HTTPS sessions across cipher suites. The datasheet still lists SSL-VPN tunnel-mode figures; those do not apply on FortiOS 7.6.3 and later, so they are left out here.
SSL-VPN status. SSL-VPN tunnel mode was removed from every FortiGate in FortiOS 7.6.3, the 901G included. The 90G ($3,638 list) is the largest model in this catalog below the 901G and sits far below it: 2.2 Gbps threat protection against 30 Gbps, two 10G-capable WAN pairs against four 25G and four 10G cages, and no dedicated HA port. Sites between the two usually land on a model we quote by part number, such as the 120G.

What we check before this model goes on a quote, from the engineer who sizes, stages and installs it.
Fortinet's datasheet does not name a predecessor for the 900G series, and we do not publish a guessed mapping. We check your current unit's lifecycle dates and Trade-Up eligibility per serial number, then size the 901G (or 900G) on your measured traffic with inspection on.
The 901G has a dedicated 2.5GE HA port and a separate GE management port, so heartbeat and out-of-band management do not eat data ports. Fortinet recommends at least two heartbeat links: use the HA port plus one GE port, cabled directly between the units. Both units need their own bundle, and the current price list has no 901G HA SKU, so an HA pair on 3-year UTP is $262,874 at list. Each unit ships with two hot-swap supplies; feed them from separate PDUs.
Four 25G SFP28 ultra-low-latency cages (they also take 10G SFP+), four 10G SFP+, eight GE SFP and sixteen GE RJ45. Only two 1G SX optics come in the box, so 10G and 25G optics go on the quote: FN-TRAN-SFP+SR lists at $72 and FN-TRAN-SFP28-SR at $210. A typical pair uses 25G toward the core, 10G toward WAN edge or SD-WAN underlay, and the GE ports for out-of-band and lower-speed segments.
Both members are added in FortiManager as model devices by serial number and staged before they ship. For a migration from an existing FortiGate or another vendor, we convert the config, rebuild interface mapping onto the new port layout, and run the old and new units side by side in a cutover window with a rollback path. VDOMs: 10 by default, up to 50.
Threat protection is 30 Gbps, but SSL inspection is 16.7 Gbps and 18,000 new inspected sessions per second. A hub terminating many SD-WAN spokes or deep-inspecting most traffic should be sized on those two numbers. Log volume at this size usually needs FortiAnalyzer; the SSDs hold local logs but are not a substitute for central retention.
The only datasheet difference is the 901G's 2x 480 GB SSD (plus a little weight and power). The FG-900G lists at $41,580 against $49,411. If logs are centralized in FortiAnalyzer and disk-based features are not required, the 900G may be the better fit. AC and DC versions list at the same price; DC renewals use different part numbers.

Two units, each with its own bundle. At list, two FG-901G-BDL-950-36 (3 years UTP) come to $262,874, plus 10G/25G optics, which are quoted separately. The current price list has no shared-license HA SKU for the 901G.
Same ports and performance figures. The 901G adds 2x 480 GB SSD for local logging and disk-based features and lists at $49,411 against $41,580 for the 900G. If logs are centralized in FortiAnalyzer and disk-based features are not required, the 900G may be the better fit.
Only if the rack is fed from 48 to 60 V DC power. The DC model lists at the same price as AC but uses its own bundle and renewal part numbers, so tell us which one is installed when you renew.

You can buy the appliance alone, but every FortiGate we sell carries at least FortiCare ($7,812 per year list for FortiCare Premium on a 901G), because the bare unit gets only 90 days of firmware. A bundle adds FortiGuard UTP or Enterprise Protection, and each member of an HA pair needs its own.
