The 31G is the 30G with 30 GB of onboard storage for local logging; the datasheet gives both the same ports and performance figures. Each has its own bundle and renewal part numbers (FG30G and GT31G), so a 30G renewal will not apply to a 31G serial.
Bundle note. Fortinet’s current 50G datasheet (2026-09-29) notes that Content Disarm and Reconstruct, DNS and video filtering, and inline CASB are not available on the 30G and 50G series in any FortiOS build, although Fortinet’s bundle descriptions include them.

Source: Fortinet FortiGate / FortiWiFi 30G Series datasheet, FGFWF-30G-DAT-R07-20260414 (2026-04-14). Fortinet states all performance values as “up to”. IPS, application control, NGFW and threat protection are measured with logging enabled; NGFW with firewall, IPS and application control on; threat protection adds malware protection. IPsec uses AES256-SHA256. SSL inspection uses an average of HTTPS sessions across cipher suites.
SSL-VPN status. No SSL-VPN on the 30G: Fortinet’s datasheet lists SSL-VPN throughput and users as “—”. Remote access is IPsec (IKEv2), rated at 250 client-to-gateway tunnels, or ZTNA. Fortinet: FortiOS 7.6.3 release notes. Background: FortiGate SSL-VPN migration.
FortiGate 30G vs 50G
The neighbouring models, compared on the same datasheet figures.
The 50G more than doubles threat protection (1.1 Gbps against 500 Mbps) and IPS (2.25 Gbps against 800 Mbps), and adds a LAN port, a USB port and 5 VDOMs, for $1,093 against $697 at list. Pick the 30G for a small site on a circuit around 300 Mbps or less; pick the 50G above that or when most HTTPS traffic is inspected.
Datasheet figures and Fortinet list price: FortiGate 30G, FortiGate 50G
What we check before this model goes on a quote, from the engineer who sizes, stages and installs it.
What it replaces
We check your current unit’s lifecycle dates and Trade-Up eligibility per serial number rather than publish a guessed mapping. See FortiGate end-of-life replacement. The 30G fits a small site on a circuit of about 300 Mbps or less; above that, look at the 50G.
Ports
Four gigabit copper ports in total: one WAN, two LAN and one FortiLink port, which the datasheet says can be reconfigured as a regular port. There is no USB port and no second dedicated WAN, so a second circuit for SD-WAN uses one of the LAN ports. Put a switch behind it for anything more than a couple of wired devices.
HA pair
The datasheet lists Active-Passive and Active-Active HA. There is no dedicated HA port, and Fortinet recommends at least two heartbeat links, which would take half of each unit’s ports. Each unit needs its own bundle. For most 30G sites a single unit plus a spare, or a larger model, is the better use of the money.
Sizing caveats
Size to threat-protection throughput (500 Mbps), not the 4 Gbps firewall figure. SSL deep inspection tops out at 400 Mbps and 260 new inspected sessions per second on the datasheet. The 30G has no VDOMs. Logs go to FortiAnalyzer, FortiAnalyzer Cloud ($150 per year list) or FortiGate Cloud; the 31G ($876 list) adds 30 GB of local storage.
Licensing gotchas
A bare FG-30G gets 1 year of hardware coverage but only 90 days of firmware and ticket support. A 1-year UTP renewal lists at $350. Fortinet's current 50G datasheet (2026-09-29) notes that Content Disarm and Reconstruct, DNS and video filtering, and inline CASB are not available on the 30G and 50G series in any FortiOS build, although Fortinet's bundle descriptions include them. Unregistered contracts auto-start 60 days after shipment in the US and Canada, so register on arrival.
Remote access
No SSL-VPN on this model (datasheet: —). Plan remote users on IPsec/IKEv2 or ZTNA. See FortiGate SSL-VPN migration.

FortiGate 30G questions
How much does a FortiGate 30G cost?
Fortinet list price is $697 for the appliance alone, $1,047 with 1 year of FortiCare Premium and UTP, $1,642 for 3 years and $2,184.50 for 5 years (price list effective 2026-09-07). Your quote confirms current pricing, tax and shipping.
What is the difference between the FG-30G and FG-31G?
The 31G adds 30 GB of onboard storage for local logging; the datasheet gives both the same ports and performance figures. The 31G lists at $876 against $697 and uses its own bundle and renewal part numbers.
Does the FortiGate 30G support SSL-VPN?
No. Fortinet’s datasheet lists SSL-VPN throughput and users as “—” for the 30G. Plan remote users on IPsec (IKEv2) or ZTNA.
How many users can a FortiGate 30G handle?
We size it for roughly 1 to 15 users on a circuit up to about 300 Mbps (see our sizing guide). The circuit decides it more than headcount: threat protection is 500 Mbps with all profiles on, and SSL inspection 400 Mbps.
Can two FortiGate 30Gs run as an HA pair?
Yes. The datasheet lists Active-Passive and Active-Active. Each unit needs its own bundle, there is no dedicated HA port, and heartbeat links use data ports, so on a four-port box we usually recommend a single larger model or a spare instead.
Do I need a license, or can I buy just the hardware?
You can buy the appliance alone, but every FortiGate we sell carries at least FortiCare ($100 per year list for FortiCare Premium on a 30G), because the bare unit gets only 90 days of firmware. A bundle adds FortiGuard UTP or Enterprise Protection.
What is the lead time for a FortiGate 30G?
We do not quote a standard lead time. It depends on Fortinet supply and distributor stock for the exact part number, so we check stock when we quote and confirm it on the quote.
